WWII History: The German Invasion of France, 1940

The Shocking Reason Nazi Germany Crushed                               France During World War II

Auftragstaktik or Führen mit Auftrag (leading by mission) was one of the key components of Wermacht and Waffen SS leadership. It allowed more freedom for unit commanders to make tactical decisions on the fly during combat without having the hinderance of waiting on command for a decision. This would be a key trait in Wermacht leadership not only during the invasion of France but through the entire war including on the Eastern front. This “flexibility” allowed the blitzkrieg tactics of the Germans to be that much more effective against the French forces WW1 static warfare strategy and tactics.
