I had the privilege of serving as one of several chaperones this past Saturday, for a group of 50 high schoolers from N of Houston TX. I had been to many political rallies in the past but none for a cause that included a march.
The 3 hour bus ride over was filled with the usual teen noise, banter and some singing. What struck me the most was many prayers led by two teen boys.
Once we arrived and the groups gathered in several large parking lots, we watched as fellow Americans of all types conversed while waiting for the march to commence. There was no vitriol or anti-ProLife types around, but I wouldn’t have been surprised. There were many thousands of people but I have no idea how many.
Once the March kicked off, some neat things occurred. A group of young adult males sang some chants in Latin, and some in English. The group I was with came up with some Yell Leaders who led us with some enthusiastic cheers of the pro-life type.
About 2/3 of the way during the march at a turn, we finally came upon the only group of anti-Life types. I was expecting 50-100 myself but there were only about a dozen with 5 signs and one person with a mega-phone. Nobody I saw around me on the march engaged then in any way. They just looked over at them and carried on. Some got with the chants/yells even louder to drown them out. I can’t image how taxing it must be to have your hate ON HIGH for that long. I really wonder what those people do when they look in the mirror and ask themselves what they stand for.
The march up the street, north on Congress Ave, to the Capitol steps was inspiring. There was a heavy Texas State Trooper presence at the perimeter fence on the Capitol grounds but no formal screening – just many long looks by the troopers on horseback.
The guest speakers were inspirational, especially the lady who as a baby, survived a saline-injection abortion in 1977. The intended victim’s own grandmother recommend the abortion to her mom, but it didn’t go as planned. She survived the toxic salt concoction intended to extinguish her life (for 5 days not the usual 3). Once a few other nurses at the hospital found out about it, they rallied to the baby’s support and she was adopted and raised by caring parents.
The ride home was even more inspiring as the teens were encouraged to share their observations by testifying to what impact or inspiration they experienced.
The 57,000,000+ million humans wiped out over the last 43 years is mind boggling. The exact number can never be known but the best count comes from the former research arm of Planned Parenthood.
I shared a meal with some of the teens. One had protested outside the Planned Parenthood facility on I-45 just south of downtown Houston. It is the largest and most efficient abortion facility in the world. The teen girl said “she felt like evil was emanating from the building” while there praying for potential clients. The feeling did not leave her until she left the property.
I have seen it from afar and it does look ominous. Built like a fortress is some ways.
This Christian father is going to go check it out for myself. I’ve heard that description second hand before but never was I shaken by the description.
