So President Trump has suggested Arming “some” Teachers as a way to stop mass shootings in schools. Later on, he clarified his remark:
“I never said ‘give teachers guns’ like was stated on Fake News @CNN & @NBC. What I said was to look at the possibility of giving ‘concealed guns to adept teachers with military or special training experience- only the best.”
So how about this ideal? Are there any current examples around the world of teachers and staff being armed and if so, how successful is it?
Israel, by far, is the most shining example that having ARMED TEACHERS AND STAFF in schools WORKS.
So let’s unpack this ideal of ARMING teachers and staff.
First off, I do not believe it should be mandatory in any capacity. Let the teachers who feel they are up to the task, volunteer. After that they are going to need some INTENSIVE TRAINING on topics such as active shooter scenarios, weapon retention, etc.
But how about the argument that it would be “cheaper” to hire a few off duty LEO’s who could work under the auspice of the local Sheriff or Police Department versus arming the school staff and having to keep up training records for the state, etc.? There is also the consensus of many LEO’s that arming the school staff would lead to staff members “being out for themselves” when an incident occurred and not engaging the shooter when the time came.
My initial response to that is why are we first worrying about what it will cost to keep our kids safe when we do not think twice about having our own money guarded at banks? This goes back to having our PRIORITIES backwards as a NATION in my opinion.
Quite frankly, I don’t think either of these arguments hold water under scrutiny and here’s why.
Firstly, we are now discovering there was not just one But Four Armed LEO’s Who Waited Outside the School During The Shooting.
So, Do we really want to make the case that we should leave this completely in the hands of Law Enforcement when obvious critical mistakes were made by:
- Democratic Sheriff Scott Israel
- The Broward County Sheriff’s Department
- Federal Bureau of Investigation
All of these new revelations about the ineptness of Law Enforcement (both Local and Federal) combined with this statement by survivor Colton Haab (himself regarded as a hero for using his ROTC training to help protect students) Only reinforces the need for ARMED Teachers and Staff in our Schools:
“If Coach Feis had had his firearm in school that day, I believe that he most likely could’ve stopped the threat.”
Secondly, I think the massacre in Parkland proves that the public solely relying on Law Enforcement for “protection” and “security” is a fallacy. For too long Americans have believed that Law Enforcement’s primary job is to “protect” them from the bad guys. Why is that? Because of the motto “Protect and Serve” emblazoned across most patrol cars?
To again quote the excellent article Worst Responders by Christopher Roach:
“Latent within the idea of gun control is the notion that guns increase aggregate danger, and if prohibited, police and other professionals might easily protect the disarmed populace from any remaining guns, as well as other risks. This is a dubious hope. We have relatively few police in this country, and they are spread very thin, particularly in rural areas. As the saying goes, “when seconds count, the police are minutes away.” As a general matter, police investigate crimes after they are completed. Their deterrent effect consists primarily in the general threat of detection and incarceration. Broward County has nearly 2 million people and about 2,800 deputies. Divided into three shifts, that is about one deputy for every 2,000 residents. They are not a security detail with any legal duty to defend individual citizens, nor could they be. As courts have frequently ruled, it is a “fundamental principle of American law that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any individual citizen.”
To further qualify this ideal, as recently as 2005, in Castle Rock v Gonzales the Supreme Court ruled that Law Enforcement has “No Constitutional Duty to protect citizens from harm.”
Let all that sink in for a minute.
I think as a society we have for too long had our priorities backwards when it comes to Protecting our Children in schools. Why is it we think “Gun Free Zones” in schools are a good ideal when in fact all they do is embolden evil people to attack.
We need to ALL get on board and REPEAL Gun Free Zones in Schools Now!

I think Americans have forgotten what it TRULY means be a CITIZEN endowed through the Constitution and Second Amendment with the un-alienable God Given right to protect themselves and their family from harm, whether that be at home, in their vehicle, at the store or at school!
For too long liberals have propagated the fallacious ideal that the STATE (via local, state and federal Law Enforcement) is responsible for our safety and security and not the INDIVIDUAL.
Let us remember that Individual Responsibility is the cornerstone of a Republic and the foundation of a Democracy.

For that brave minority out there that are willing to STOP being spectators and START being willing participants, Let us all FIND OUR BALLS in this time of uncertainty and struggle and behave like FREE MEN and not like STATIST SERFS dependent on somebody else to protect us and our children from the deeds of evil men.
