Cartel Corner #88: Cartels Near Texas Border Armed with RPG’s

The Mexican Los Zetas cartel controls portions of the Texas-Mexico border and has proven to possess Russian rocket-propelled grenade launchers and the grenades (RPGs). This is significant in that the Mexican transnational group has shown a willingness to fire upon U.S. aircraft, such as they did on June 5, 2015 in the Laredo Sector along the Texas border. Another significant consideration pertains to the group’s ability to smuggle persons, narcotics, or any other item they wish into the U.S.–for the right price. The RPGs could easily end up in the hands of someone or a group within the U.S.

The Los Zetas cartel having RPGs was revealed in a recent Breitbart Texas investigation into rival factions of the cartel using social media to taunt each other and to make threats. In that instance, we wrote, “In the most recent series of taunts, one faction of the Los Zetas cartel posted a photograph of what appears to be a Russian RGP-7 with the names of two rival commanders on written on the munitions.”

zetas threats

The cartel was shown to have possessed such weaponry in a prior instance, but this latest report indicates that the group possessing such threats to the U.S. was not an isolated threat. Breitbart Texas previously covered an attempt by Los Zetas to use a RPG to attack a Mexican governmental building. We wrote, “Gunmen suspected of being part of Los Zetas drug cartel fired an RPG at the headquarters of a special police unit in the border city of Piedras Negras, Coahuila; the rocket-propelled grenade did not explode. Piedras Negras is the sister city of Eagle Pass, Texas, and sits immediately across the border.”

The Los Zetas cartel has been engaging in a brutal civil war with various Los Zetas factions fighting each other, dismembering each other, and targeting each other’s families. Not only does their need for cash to fund this war increase the likelihood that they would sell such weaponry and smuggle the items into the U.S., but a prior comprehensive investigation by Breitbart Texas revealed the extent of such threats. We wrote:

While the various criminal organizations identifying as the Sinaloa Federation have retained older, more experienced and mature leadership, the Gulf cartel and the Zetas cartel have had their leadership decimated by assassinations and arrests. This has resulted in a younger breed of leaders engaged in nearly incessant infighting. These younger leaders, unlike their counterparts in the more professional Sinaloa Federation, are less concerned with long-term profits. They want money today, as evidenced by the recent unaccompanied minor crisis. In this matter, the Gulf cartel and the Zetas cartel chose the short-term profits from smuggling throngs of Central Americans into the U.S., even though this would inevitably result in increased attention to the border they control and increased an law enforcement presence. They chose today’s money over their long-term ability to continue making narco-profits. So short-sighted were groups within the Gulf cartel that they have resorted to common crimes to meet payroll after their human smuggling resulted in a decreased ability to get their narcotics loads into Texas.

Why the differences matter in regards to the threat of terrorists crossing our border

This is significant in relation to international terrorism, including the group known as ISIS. While the Sinaloa Federation has not exhibited that they would accept a large profit for today while damaging their future profits, the Gulf cartel and the Zetas cartel have done so. An individual terrorist or a small group of terrorists providing a large sum of money for help entering the U.S. would not be appealing to the Sinaloa Federation, the group who controls the U.S.-Mexico border from west of the El Paso, Texas area all the way to the Mexican city of Tijuana.  They do not accept money and large profits for today if they know their ability to continue making long-term profits will be damaged. Thus, ISIS or other terrorists would likely be forced to work through the open Texas border between the Gulf of Mexico to somewhere before El Paso, Texas. The most promising area for them would be the Laredo Sector. A Laredo crossing provides a large city close to the border that isn’t considered to be in the border region: San Antonio, Texas. Crossing in the Rio Grande Valley Sector still leaves a gauntlet of federal and state agencies to get past before Houston or San Antonio. A Laredo crossing leaves less space to travel before making a large city outside of the border region and Texas leaders have not overwhelmed the area with State Troopers, as they have in the Rio Grande Valley Sector.

Unfortunately, the very region of the Texas-Mexico border controlled by Los Zetas happens to be the region our analysis deemed most likely to cross a foreign terrorist clandestinely into the U.S.–or a weapons system.

A U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency map detailed the regions within the U.S. that are controlled by Los Zetas or where the cartel has operational abilities.

A previous Breitbart Texas exclusive report proved that Los Zetas operates freely in the state of Texas and that local law enforcement officials attempt to downplay the risk that the transnational criminal group poses for Texans.

This writer has previously called upon U.S. authorities to declare Los Zetas as a foreign terrorist organization. To date, no U.S. or Texas officials have heeded the call.

Texas News: SCOTUS Get’s It WRONG (Again) Strikes Down TX HB 2 Abortion Law

Another sad example of a Bloated, Corrupt Federal Govt. interfering with the Soverign State of Texas’ Laws. This Law saved innocent unborn Baby’s lives and despite what liberal murderers are saying, the real reason this law was overturned was to RE-OPEN Abortion Clinics which this law forced to close over the past 2 years. -SF

The United States Supreme Court has issued a decision which is a significant blow to Texas abortion law by striking down Texas House Bill 2 (HB 2). In a 5-3 decision, the nation’s highest court has struck down HB 2 in the case of Whole Woman’s Health et al. v. Hellerstedt. The legislation was signed into law by then Governor Rick Perry in 2013.

As reported by Breitbart Texas, the issues before the U.S. Supreme Court pertain to provisions that Texas lawmakers say are designed to improve the quality of care for women and improve the sanitary conditions of surgical centers used to provide women’s health services.

One of the provisions challenged required abortion facilities to comply with the standards already in place for ambulatory surgical centers. A second provision requires practitioners who perform abortions at the clinics to have admitting privileges at a hospital within thirty miles of the facility.

Medical experts testified that the requirements are reasonable and effective measures intended to improve the standard of care and safety for women undergoing abortion procedures. Pro-abortion groups call the legislation in Texas “sham laws” and complain they “are shutting clinics down and placing countless women at risk of serious harm,” as reported by Breitbart News.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton represented the State and oral argument was held on March 2. He has said “The common-sense measures Texas has put in place elevate the standard of care and protect the health of Texas women. The state has wide discretion to pass laws ensuring Texas women are not subject to substandard conditions at abortion facilities. The advancement of the abortion industry’s bottom line shouldn’t take precedent over women’s health, and we look forward to demonstrating the validity of these important health and safety requirements in Court.”

Texas News: This is What Political Correctness and Fear of Being Labeled an “Islamophobe” Equals in America

Lavish $2.5 Million Dollar Libraries Honoring “Islamic Knowledge” are Built and Islam Continues to BREED in this Country One Library and Mosque at a Time

The Library of Islamic Knowledge officially opened last weekend in downtown Houston. Mayor Sylvester Turner, joined by former Houston Rockets Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, cut the ribbon of the lavish $2.5 million dollar library housed within the Islamic Da’wah Center.

At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Turner said: “This place is not just for Muslims, but everyone,” noting it opens the door for people of all faiths to learn about a different part of the highly diverse city of Houston, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The Houston newspaper described the venue as “white marble floors of the opulent library contrast with its mahogany brown tables and bookshelves – some of which remain empty.” There’s no shortage of gold in sight. The library’s executive director, Ameer Abuhalimeh, said it cost around $2.5 million.

“The center is dedicated to the history, culture and public education of Islam,” said Abuhalimeh. “Our goal isn’t just to promote a balanced perspective of Islam, but also to serve downtown Houston and the community at-large,” he added. The library is open to the public and is part of a larger goal to offer a comprehensive educational resource to Houston residents.

The Islamic Da’wah Center opened in 2002 on the site of the former Houston National Bank. Olajuwon, who converted to Islam early on in his NBA career, bought the property in 1994, converting it into the three-story mosque that houses a main prayer hall, meeting rooms, classrooms, offices, and a kitchen. It was the first mosque in downtown Houston, according to the center’s website, and the first in the city “dedicated for Da’wah” (also spelled Dawa or Dawah).

“Broadly defined, Dawah means preaching, proselytizing or calling non-believers to Islam. Dawah is viewed in classic Islamic law as a communal obligation, meaning it is the general responsibility of the Muslim community,” says Kyle Shideler with the Center for Security Policy.

The Islamic Da’wah Center website states its mission is to “promote Islamic principles, teaching, and culture;” and its vision, to “become a destination for seekers of the truth.”

The new third floor library touts programs that host worldwide lecturers and scholars with knowledge about Islam, Islamic history, cultures, literature and the Arabic language, according to the Islamic Da’wah Center. Offerings “will range from classical Islamic knowledge to contemporary issues that affect global Muslim communities” and “…will give participants opportunities to examine the historical and cultural aspects of Islam, review historical and current events, and study global and local challenges facing Muslims, as well as acquire academic knowledge that will enrich learning about Islamic culture and life as a Muslim.” The library will offer Arabic classes.

By year’s end, Abuhalimeh anticipates having 25,000 books in the library and a digital collection of approximately 100,000 titles. He hopes the center’s Museum of Islamic Art, “dedicated to the accurate presentation of Islamic art,” will be completed by then. The museum lists among its key objectives celebrating 1,400 years of Islamic culture, the impact Muslims have had on humanity and “to propel the desire to further study and discover the mysteries of the Muslim world.”

During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Turner also said he was happy the center will continue to serve as an educational resource for middle schools, high schools, and colleges in the area, something it has done since its soft opening two months ago, as reported by the Houston newspaper.

In 2015, the Houston Independent School District opened its Arabic immersion magnet public school, which the Qatar Foundation International (QFI) granted the district’s Board of Education $75,000 for “Arabic language activities and Arab cultural events for students, teacher professional development, educational resources, the promotion of the Arabic language, community outreach, and curriculum development” as part of the school’s educational mission. Similarly, Olajuwon described a demand for the library to help the museum “complete the educational mission of the institution,” in the Chronicle article.

Houston has the state’s largest Muslim population, which, by some estimates, accounts for 1.2 percent of the city’s population. The U.S. Census Bureau’s most current 2014 available statistics estimate 2,239,558 people reside in the city of Houston. The 2014 Social, Economic and Demographic Characteristics of Metro Houston identified Arab as an ancestry for 0.7% or 41,653 people as part of the current Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown Metro area (based on the 2013 American Community Survey) of a 6,313,158 total population. In the Houston newspaper article, Abuhalimeh claimed 200,000 Muslims live in Houston.

In 2015, the San Antonio Express-News reported there were about 80 mosques and, at least, 10 Muslim schools in Houston. According to a 2007 Pew Research Center survey, 65 percent of adult Muslims in the U.S. are foreign born. Pew’s 2011 survey of Muslim Americans noted  more Muslims came to the U.S. in recent years: 12 percent came before 1980; 16 percent, during the 1980s; 31 percent, in the 1990s; and 40 percent since 2000.

In January 2016, Pew reported just over half of the projected growth of the U.S. Muslim population from 2010 to 2015 was because of immigration. They estimate 3.3 million Muslims of all ages live in the U.S., comprising around 1 percent of the nation’s population. Based on age, fertility, mortality, migration, and religious switching drawn from multiple sources, including the 2011 survey, Pew projects the U.S. Muslim population to double by 2050.

Natural Disaster Survival: A Tragic Warning Why You Should NEVER Drive in Flood Waters

HOUSTON, Texas — A video released by the Harris County Toll Road Authority shows a woman drowning in her car after she drove past a road barrier into a deeply flooded underpass on Monday morning.

Flooded underpasses are nothing new in this city and officials constantly use the phrase “Turn around, don’t drown,” to warn drivers of the deadly threat that results from driving into street flooding. Despite the warnings, at least eight people died in the Houston area following rains that dumped as much as 18 inches of rain during a 24 hour period that ended Monday morning.

The video below, released by the Harris County Toll Road Authority following a public information request, shows 25-year-old Claudia Melgar driving past a roadway barrier and into a deeply flooded underpass. She had been driving inbound on the Westpark Tollway and took the Post Oak exit, according to a Houston Chronicle article by Matt Levin.

The video shows the woman struggling inside the white Dodge Journey with a flashlight as she tries to find a way out of the vehicle. As the vehicle’s rear window disappears below the water, the movement inside the vehicle appears to stop. The woman is never seen exiting the vehicle. Her body was recovered on Tuesday.

Another video, not released at this time, shows Melgar avoiding a tow truck that was blocking the exit. A toll road worker was reportedly seen chasing after the woman’s vehicle after she drove past the barrier.

The released video does not show anyone attempting to rescue the drowning woman.

It is estimated the water was about 17 feet deep at the time of the incident. The depth of water on roadways can be very deceiving, especially at night.

County officials have repeatedly warned Houston area residents of the dangers of these flooded roadways in the past.

So far, at least eight people have died from the flooding caused by Monday’s historic rainfall. These include people from neighboring Austin and Waller Counties located just west of Harris County.

The Houston Chronicle’s Jessica Hamilton reported those who have died have been identified as:

  • Sunita Vikas Malhara , 49
  • Suresh Kumar Talluri’. 49
  • Charles Odum, 56
  • Teri White Rodriguez, 41
  • German Antonio Franco, 66
  • Claudia Meglar, 25
  • Pedro Rascon Morales, 61

The name of the 8th victim has not yet been released.

While it is clearly recommended to not drive into flooded roadways, victims are frequently caught in these situations and have no idea how to escape from the vehicle. ABC News teamed up with the Indiana State Police to produce a video demonstrating how to escape from a flooded vehicle.

The video above dispels the old method of waiting for the car to fill with water to open the doors. Officials now claim that technique is a death trap. If trapped in the water in your car, these officers recommend you immediately unbuckle your seat belt, roll down your window, grab any children or disabled people, and then escape through the open window.

They stress that time is very limited. Once the water starts rushing in through the window, the car will sink very quickly. Dr. Gordon Geisbrecht, a University of Manitoba professor who trains law enforcement officers on how to escape from a flooded car boiled the process down to four simple words: Seat belts, Windows, Children, Out.

Texas News: Illegal Alien Surrenders in Hit-and-Run Crash that Killed Pastor and His Wife

An Illegal Alien Illegally Street Racing…Two Epidemics that are costing innocent lives everyday,,,What is currently being done (or not done) is NOT working, plain and simple.

If you are a Texan, I suggest you start taking ACTION now to ensure this State is around for our Kids to enjoy. Washington D.C. does not care about Texas, only Texas cares about Texas. -SF

HOUSTON, Texas — The man who allegedly killed a pastor and his wife while he was reported to be street racing is in the U.S. illegally, officials say. The illegal alien from Mexico surrendered to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) on Friday morning.

During the booking intake, authorities discovered that Alexis De Larosa Sosa, 21, is a Mexican national who entered the United States illegally, HCSO public information officer Ryan Sullivan confirmed in a phone interview with Breitbart Texas.

“His intake form says: U.S. citizen, no; Alien Status, illegal,” Sullivan told this reporter.

De Larosa Sosa was wanted in connection with a street racing crash where Pastor Jesse Estrada Sabillon, and his wife, Maria Sabillon, were killed. The couple was driving home Tuesday night after visiting their niece who had just given birth to a baby when they were struck by the truck.

The suspect is reported to have fled the scene following the crash and did not turn himself in until Friday morning at about 10 a.m. local time.

He was allegedly driving a 2006 Chevy pick-up truck and was said to be racing with dark colored Dodge Challenger or Charger, the Houston Chronicle reported on Wednesday. The two vehicles were said to be racing along the Sam Houston Tollway feeder road when De Larosa Sosa is reported to have run a red light striking the 2004 BMW 330 (pictured above) driven by Sabillon. The couple were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. De Larosa Sosa is said to have fled the scene on foot. The driver of the Dodge fled the scene in his vehicle.

Officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office quickly notified the family of the pastor who expressed relief at the news, the Houston Chronicle reported earlier on Friday.

De Larosa Sosa is currently processing into the Harris County jail and has not yet made a court appearance. He is expected to be charged in connection with the two homicides and fleeing the scene of the fatal accident.
