CO 101: Small Unit Tactics Review

I have been brushing up on Small Unit Tactics this month in my training.

Here are a few lessons I have been reviewing.

Note: These vids are very basic and to the point but will give you a general ideal.

Also, I have never trained with any of the companies or people in these vids, nor am I being paid to endorse them.

I simply did a cursory search for some vids with solid SUT information and this is what I found.

I also highly Recommend having dog eared copies of the following manuals on hand to refer back too and study frequently:

  • SH21-75 The Ranger Handbook, 1992 Edition or 2006 ed.

  • FM 7-8 The Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad, 1992 ed.

Crusader Corner: Turkey’s New 5 Million Man “Army of Islam”

When Turkey’s semi-official newspaper Yeni Safak called for urgent action in forming a 57-nation “Army of Islam” to besiege and attack Israel, a suggestion undoubtedly approved with at least a wink and nod by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, it would signal the possible intent to create the largest military force on the planet – one nearly as large as the total population of the Jewish state.

The report came just ahead of the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and was published under the headline, “What if an Army of Islam was formed against Israel?” It was translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute.

But it wasn’t a rhetorical question. It was actually a suggestion to combine the military forces of all Islamic countries to overwhelm the Israeli army in manpower, budget and equipment – even boasting with statistics.

Civilian Operator 101: Preparing for the Urban Future of Counterinsurgency

Bottom Line: Conflict follows humanity wherever it goes, and the world’s population is increasingly living in cities. Waning are the days of the Maoist blueprint of rural insurgents pillaging small peripheral villages and seeking refuge in the hard terrain of mountainous caverns, dense forests or expansive deserts. Soon terrorist and insurgent groups will mount operations from crowded slums and ritzy skyscrapers – not just in a dense urban landscape, but in coastal megacities that pose a unique challenge for which the U.S. military largely remains unprepared.

Background: The United Nations estimated in 2016 that some 55 percent of the world’s population lives in urban areas, which will grow to 60 percent by 2030. There are 512 cities of at least one million inhabitants around the world, and this too is expected to grow to 662 cities by 2030. Over the same time period, the number of megacities – or overlapping urban landscapes home to at least 10 million residents – is expected to grow from 31 to 41. Many of these are emerging in the developing world, which will soon be economic, political, and cultural centers of gravity in the international political order.
